Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane)

Overview

This course is delivered by Airways Aviation on behalf of Aviation Australia.

Airways Aviation offers training locations at Archerfield Airport, and the Gold Coast/ Lismore Airports.

Archerfield Airport: Located just 11 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, this is an ideal training hub that combines a unique four-runway layout with immediate access to complex controlled airspace.

Gold Coast Airport/ Lismore Airport: Students get the best of studying across two airport locations.  Theory and simulator training is conducted at the Gold Coast Airport campus, and practical flight training is conducted at the Lismore campus.  Students have access to a free inter-campus shuttle service.

Airways Aviation’s aircraft fleet and training equipment include:

Airways Aviation is a CASA Part 141 and Part 142 approved training provider, holding a valid CASA Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC).

Candidates must:

  • Before you start – Additional assessment requirements:
    Some countries may require additional assessment requirements, such as a higher IELTS or equivalent level and/or student interview. You will be advised upon application if further details are required. Aviation Australia does not recommend sitting an IELTS before having received an offer.
  • Academic Suitability:
    Evidence of completion of Year 12 or equivalent. Where an applicant does not meet these requirements, Aviation Australia may consider sufficient relevant work experience (documented via a resume and referees) and/or a successfully completed higher level qualification that demonstrates academic suitability. Aviation Australia uses these equivalent international education achievement levels.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
    Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Assessment:
    You must address in writing all the questions in the GTE section of the application form that can be found here. You can find additional guidelines to structure your responses here.
  • Current Valid Passport:
    The applicant’s passport must be current and valid for at least 6 months from the course commencement date.

 

  • Documentation Requirements:
    • All documentation supplied must be certified and translated (in full) to English. Please refer to the front page of the application form for more details.
    • If you need support in submitting your application, you can contact one of Aviation Australia’s registered agents here.
    • Applications submitted with uncertified documents will not be processed.

Self-Study

Self study for a minimum of 5 hours per week is required with access to a computer and reliable internet connection. Each study period needs to be completed before progressing to the next study period.

This is an intensive course; students are expected to complete additional revision on a regular (daily) basis. For minimal disruption, it is recommended that students do not undertake any employment whilst studying this program.

Face to Face

Face to face training is located at Mission Aviation Fellowship – Mareeba Airport. Flight lessons/briefings may be conducted at various aerodromes that may require travel. A minimum of 20 hours per week face to face training is required.

Training hours are between 7.50am – 4.30pm* Monday – Friday.

*Times may vary based on available flying and briefing hours.

How to Enrol

Please find below the screening and enrolment procedure for your perusal:

  1. You can apply online by using the International Enrolment Form and Aviation Australia will then assess your profile.
  2. If successful, you will be issued a Letter of Offer conditional on completion of the aptitude test with MAF.
  3. You will then be able to proceed with the deposit payment for the course and you will get issued with a Confirmation of Enrolment that you can use to apply for your student visa.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you hold a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence, CASA Private Pilot Licence and/or a foreign pilot licence you may be able to have your previous studies, qualifications and experience assessed for certification against this course.
