Kickstart your aviation career while you're still at school

Real aircraft. Real hangars. Real industry instructors.

If you’re in Year 10, 11 or 12, you can begin a nationally recognised aviation qualification before you finish school.

Aviation Australia has trained the people who maintain, fly and operate Australia’s aircraft since 2001.

Our Aviation at School program brings that training into your senior years, so you leave school with a qualification, industry contacts and a head start on everyone else.

Aviation at School

A qualification that counts at school, and counts at work

Aviation at School is a Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) program. You study it alongside your normal subjects in Year 10, 11 or 12. Depending on your state or territory, it can contribute toward your senior secondary certificate while also giving you a nationally recognised aviation qualification.

That means two things at once. Credit toward finishing school, and a qualification employers actually recognise when you walk out the gate.

Studied alongside school

Your course fits around your timetable. Delivery mixes online theory, classroom sessions and hands-on practical work depending on the qualification.

May count toward your certificate

Selected courses can contribute to your QCE, VCE or NTCET points. Your VET coordinator can confirm what applies in your state.

Funding may be available

Funding is available for eligible applicants, and some courses are fully funded depending on your state. Ask us what applies to you.

The sky's the limit

Few industries take you as far, as fast

Aviation is a global industry with a shortage of trained people and a habit of promoting the ones who turn up qualified. Whether you want to work on aircraft, fly them, operate drones or look after the people on board, the industry rewards skill and gives you somewhere to use it.

Travel the world

See new places, work with people from everywhere, and take your skills across borders. Aviation qualifications are recognised internationally.

Work on something that matters

Aircraft don’t take off unless someone has signed them off. This is an industry where your work is visible, accountable and genuinely interesting.

Build a life, not just a job

Aviation offers shift patterns, locations and career paths that let you build the lifestyle you want alongside the career you want.

Before you apply

The questions we get asked most

I'm an educator or VET teacher. How can I collaborate with Aviation Australia to deliver school programs?

We work with schools across Australia to deliver nationally recognised aviation qualifications to senior students. Aviation Australia provides the training, compliance, industry alignment and student support, while your school promotes the program and supports student participation. We can tailor delivery to suit your timetable, facilities and student cohort. Simply get in touch with our team to discuss the best aviation pathway for your school.

Do I need to know what I want to do already?

No. Start with the course that sounds most interesting. A Certificate II gives you foundation skills that carry across aviation, and you specialise later.

Will this count toward finishing school?

It can, depending on your state and your course. Your VET coordinator can confirm what applies. We’ll also confirm it with you before you enrol.

What does it cost?

Funding is available for eligible applicants, and some courses are fully funded in certain states. Costs vary by course and location, so ask us about your specific situation.

What year do I need to be in?

Most courses are open to Year 10, 11 or 12 students depending on the qualification. A few have minimum age requirements. The guide sets out what applies to each course.

What if my school doesn't offer it yet?

Submit an expression of interest anyway. We work directly with schools to set up new delivery, and your interest helps make the case.

What happens after I finish?

Most students move into an apprenticeship, traineeship or the next qualification level. The pathway map shows where each course leads.
